How to see the wind

I found this sailing video below on Tumblr and it reminded me that when you sail if the sails are trimmed just right, the shape of the sail shows you the shape of the air you are passing through. You can see the wind. (also please click on the thethirdman8 link as his is another lovely tumblr.)

So I did a google search for ‘see the wind’ and found a project by two data visualisers, a mathematician and a designer, Fernanda Viégas and Martin Wattenberg. They created a live wind map of the USA.
